Please share your feedback of the seminar: what did you like, what did you learn, how can it be improved, etc.?
“What I liked the most is that the seminar goes way beyond the lasts presidents, so we get to have a full view of America's course of action towards immigrants. I learned about models of integration, the different historic trends that America adopted regarding immigrants and refugees and what is the actual paradigm. I think it would be cool to use polls in the slides, to have a cuantitave measure about public support regarding the different approachs.”
“It was an excellent seminar! I think there is nothing to improve. The PowerPoints are very complete and the videos were entertaining!”
“I liked the way that the teacher explained the topic, I learnt how is the politics and rights about the inmigrants in the USA. I really liked this seminar, it was very productive. I have no complaints.”
“I liked the good attitude of the teacher, the dynamism of the class and the very interesting topics.”
“From my point of view, this seminar was very interesting and important too because I learned a lot about the inmigrant and refugees´ situation on USA. The knowledge that I acquired with this seminar will be very usefull to my profesional carrer. I learned about how was the inmigration on the US along the decades; what was the public opinion respect that; the differents policies of the republican and democrats presidents; the different ways to integrate the migrants and the perspectives of that, all of this backed up by information and statics. In resume I highly recommend this seminar for future students because they will adcquired a lot of very important information for any political scientist.”
“First i have to say that this seminar was good to learn an issue that a wasnt know better. Els, you was a good professor and you explain the situation very well with a fabolous way to give to us the information and the real situation of the inmigrants of the USA. Thank you very much and hace a nice trip in the return to the United States!”
“What I really was is she new about real life cases that was really import to understand the situation in a better way, in this seminar I was a blank space, I didn't know much, so everything I learn from the context to the political integration was very import for me and also for my career, now I understand better the social-political situation of the United States. I tnhink the seminar was perfect, I would love to see more the public opinions on americas, or maybe the media opinions, if they have a powerful control on what other people think or even if they (the media) questions the policies of the president or the congress. And also how is congress conformed and how are the deciones, who has the majority, etc. I really love this seminar, thank you for the experience.”
“I really liked the revision of the immigration history in The US and it’s political reaction and policies applications for each period and political party in question. The interactive part such as playing videos was super for not loosing the attention of students. It could be improved by adding some more about public opinion if not only the immigrants but also the born americans. Thank you Els!!”
“I liked the organization of the seminar, we could understand from scratch the immigration issue in the US, starting for the historic point of view into different types of immigrant status (the reasons for this and options to become citizens). It was also tackled the relationship between legal rights and political objectives sometimes related specifically with who is in office but at the same time the immigration issue has been a continuous unsolved or poorly regulated issue along US history. The difference between being a green card holder or a citizen or just undocumented, with the option of having a city id. It is very interesting to see how cities can work differently from federal level and the importance of its independence and at the same time the importance of federal level stoping policies or laws which aim to legislate against the Constitution. The institutional framework related to groups needs or political interests. Thanks for the opportunity to learn all this.”
“I really liked ir because I learned a lot about the immigration problem in the United States that I didn´t know. For example, I dind´t know that the Immigration started so early, and that asian people were part of the immigration wave. I also found the cartoons a very awesome way to ilustrate the different situations, as well as the different Presidents videos. To sum up, I really liked the seminar and it dynamic! Thank you very much for this great oportunity!!!”
“What I liked most about the seminar was the fact that, when it was finished, I realized how much I've learned about inmigrants in the US. So, it was a really good panorama about eh history, the laws, how it really works on the practice. That was because of the grat and hard work of Els to make everything simple, short, but at the same time quite clarifying: that is the presentation on power point and the explanation. I liked how it was organized, too. Having a teacher who actually lives what she is teaching is really helpfull for the understanding. Of couse, i've learned thing that I didn't even imagine that was in that way, i found myself surprised in many times of the information. I have to say that, in some way, i was inspired to investigate and learn more about that kind of politics and realities in Argentina. About how can it be improved, i would say that maybe doing some practice or activity in the class would have been good, but I also undertand that the time was very short. Finally, I would like to thank you Els for been here in Argentina and share your knowleadge with us, I hope you had a great time too!”
“I liked everyting about the seminar, the videos that Els showed to us, her own testimony, etc. She was an amazing professor, so sweet with all of us and she tried to be as understandable as possible about each topic that she covered. She did an unique research i'm glad she wanted to share it with our academic community, I was grateful to be her student the last week. I've enjoyed those classes. I've learned to understand this issue with a new perspective.”
“The seminar has been very useful to my career. I learned very important things about the immigration in USA and Els teaching us differents procedures for get a ID, Green cards, be a resident, a citizen, etc.”
“I really enjoyed the seminar. It was very complete and the explanations were very clear, so at the end of the class I didn´t have any question. Els is a very good teacher and she makes us participate a lot and that´s what I think I liked the most. The fact that we wanted to participate a lot because we felt very comfortable around her and we didn´t have any fear to be wrong about something. The slides, the comics and the videos were just excellent. In my opinion, I think that were very clear tools to facilitate the learing. Thank you so much Els!”
“From the seminar "A nation of inmigrants" I was surprised by the large amount of information, both historical and current. The fact of taking a historical tour allowed me to understand the advances, and the different contexts. The great help of the "memes", images, or photos reveals another type of very important information for someone who is not inmersed in that reality. Thank you very much CUNY por having allowed us to have this great seminar!”
“I did not really know what to expect. It was really interesting. Learned a lot about the history of migration in the US and to this day. It may be helpful to be able to read the PPT beforehand.”
“I liked the interactive method of teaching and the material which was presented in a simple yet effecetive way to understand.”
“I think it was very interesting. I really like it! It is awasome how at the beging you see a stadistic without understanding anything, and then after all the speech now you understand.”
“The seminar was very interesting. We learn a lot about the actuality. This seminar was very important for our academic formation.”
